Up until October 1995, the Project was funded by the Community Education’s Central Positive Action Budget. In August 1995, the┬áthen Local Urban Aid Panel awarded the Project a grant for four years and in November of that year the Black Community Development Project became independent.

Since 1995 the core funding for BCDP comes form the North Edinburgh Social Inclusion Partnership. The BCDP’s current funders are Lloyds TSB Foundation, Scottish Executive, City of Edinburgh Children and Families Department, BBC Children In Need, ESF EQUAL programme, Comic Relief, and Lankelly Chase Trust.
